A kilt is a great choice for weddings, uniforms and as a funky wardrobe alternative.

If you don’t belong to a clan or you want to be part of the Southern Lakes family, Shona’s official Southern Lakes tartan design is the perfect choice to leave a lasting impression.

Although we don’t make the kilts ourselves, we supply our dressmaker’s fabric to local artisan Alaine at Just Kilts, who we partner with for exceptional quality kiltmaking.

Based just outside of Dunedin, Alaine makes a variety of kilts for both children and adults in the traditional way. She can also make your flashes/garter ties for more formal occasions.

To give you a (very) rough guide of how much fabric you’ll need, a children’s kilt requires 1–2 metres of fabric; and an adult’s kilt requires 2–4 metres of fabric. However, because kilts are made to measure, the amount of fabric you’ll need really depends on the style and size you want.
